Intro
Ten nights. Ten nights under the boreal sky, waiting patiently for northen lights to come. Far north surely knows how to keep his treasures secrets…
Ten days. Ten days shorter than a short winter day, when sun slides on the Earth, offering to the icy lakes a soft and warm touch of light.
Ten days and ten nights. It could have last a whole life, it would never be long enough.
J0 - Go away...
16/02/2012 | Grenoble - Paris
The train was full booked.
Out seats had been stolen…
… But, hopefully, we managed to find free seats.
Loïc was waiting for us in Paris.
We spent a good night.
J1 - What a begining!
17/02/2012 | Paris - Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport - Helsinki - Ivalo - Inari
Parisian people are really too much stressed people.
That maybe explain why they can be… Well, how to say it politely? … Really really unpleasants…
Nevertheless, we managed to reach the airport without fighting anyone.
Check-in was complicated.
Boarding was complicated.
We took-off late.
We landed late.
We had to run in Helsinki Airport to catch our second flight.
We managed to board in…
… But the pilot couldn't take-off!!!
Navigation stuffs were out of order (!!!)
So, we began to wait.
A few.
A lot.
Two hours and a half.
Then, everything was fixed, so we could leave!
Of course, because of this delay, we missed the bus in Ivalo.
So we took a taxi to drive us to Inari.
The owner of the guest house was a bit worry not to have seen us in the bus…
But, finally, everything ended well!
J2 - The grounch battle
18/02/2012 | Inari - Inari lake
We decided to have a quiet day, after the transport rush…
To rest and discover Inari.
Frozen lake and snow… White and ice everywhere!
J3 - Sightings
19/02/2012 | Inari - Inari lake
The weather wasn't fine, but wasn't bad neither.
We spent time exploring Inari, in order to find good “picture-spots” facing the North.
There, we would see Northern Lights.
…
But, when the night came, it was too cloudy.
So, we waited in vain.
J4 - Revontulet
20/02/2012 | Inari - Inari forest (1) - Inari lake
Northern weather is really (really) unpredictable.
It snows, then the sun shines.
Then, a storm rises.
Then, the sun shines again.
Then, it's cloudy.
And, finally, the day ends under a great clear sky.
As the appropriate conditions were present, we got ready to go outside after the sunset.
We didn't even have to wait.
They were here…
… Solar rains, falling from the sky.
Northen lights.
It was 18°c under zero.
But wasn't cold at all facing this fantastic scenery!!!
J5 - Siida
21/02/2012 | Inari - Siida museum
There's always a day, wherever I am, where I meet someine I know.
It was this day…
… At Siida museum…
Must say I'm a bit fed up with this… !!!
Regarding the weather, it was the perfect day to visit a museum.
J6 - Dog sledding (1)
22/02/2012 | Inari - Inari lake - Siperia Lapponica - Muotkatunturin
We drove on the frozen road, as fast as Ari Vatanen (… or almost).
We survived the frozen clutch halfway up.
We found the husky farm in the middle of the forest.
We hung the dogs on the sledges.
We ran in the snow.
We fell in snow holes.
We've been bitten by wolfdogs.
We didn't evolve into werewolfs.
We hit road signs.
We slept on reindeer skins.
In short, we went dog sledding.
J7 - Dog sledding (2)
23/02/2012 | Muotkatunturin - Siperia Lapponica - Inari - Inari lake
We woke-up in -30°c sleeping bags.
We ate porridge for breakfast.
We were stuck in roots.
We tried to stop dogs, who wanted to leave without us.
We rode too fast in the forest.
We finally arrived alive to the husky farm.
We drove again on the frozen road, as fast as Ari Vatanen (… or almost).
We survived again the frozen clutch halfway up.
We had MX3 Aventure dehydrated meals for diner.
We were tired…
In short, we went dog sledding again.
J8 - Cross-country skiing
24/02/2012 | Inari - Inari forest (2) - Inari lake
J9 - Waiting for Northen Lights
25/02/2012 | Inari - Inari lake
After 3 intensive days, we decided to have some rest.
When the night came, we looked through the window.
Northern lights were back…
… A bit less intense than the first time.
But we will not complain!
It was only 17°c under 0.
J10 - Ivalo's fun moment
26/02/2012 | Inari - Ivalo
Time to leave Inari for Ivalo.
Ivalo… Hmmm… Is definitely not the nicest place in the World!
We had to wait for our room.
J11 - Bye bye Lapland
27/02/2012 | Ivalo - Helsinki - Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport - Paris
We had the chance to experiment traditionnal finnishbreakfast.
Sausage, eggs, cheese, ham, omelette…
Perfect… For me!
The taxi was about to forget us… But came to pick us on time (anyway).
Then, flying to France…
Snow, ice, and northern lights were far away…
… We were arrived in Paris.
Ah… Paris…
J12 - ... Go back
28/02/2012 | Paris - Grenoble
My brother and Cha's cousins came to say us goodbye.
In the train, nothing to say.
A few hours after, we arrived in Grenoble.
It was really (really) hot.
We wonder when were the next holidays
